Salmon River at 4th of July Creek - ID. On August 23, 1805, Swooping Eagle (nicknamed "Toby") and his son, hired on as guides for the expedition. They, Clark, and several men went north on the Lemhi River to see if the Salmon River tributary was a way to get to the Columbia by water. Toby didn't think so, but Clark wanted to see for himself.
